Producer
He has been working as a producer for almost 20 years. He is currently producing films in Atlantik Film which he co-founded with Reha Erdem in 1994.
Ömer Atay has started working as a producer in the TV commercial business in 1986. He has produced over 1500 TV commercials for many different brands. He has received many national and international awards with his outstanding productions.
His first feature-length production was Run for Money (Kaç Para Kaç) in 1999. He was also the art director and costume designer of the film. The film was selected for the competition section in Tokyo Film Festival and received very good reviews. Run For Money has been also invited to selected film festivals including Münich, London, Göteborg, Oslo, Thessaloniki, Jerusalem, Washıngton D.C., Palm Springs, New Delhi, Montpellier, Seattle.
He was also the producer of Mommy, I'm Scared (Korkuyorum Anne) in 2004. The film was first screened at 23rd International Istanbul Film Festival and received the Fipresci Award, and also participated in several international Film Festivals including Goteborg, Copenhagen, Montpellier Film Festival and Stuttgart Turkish Film Festival. In Turkey, the film received awards at all the festivals it participated; Ankara Film Festival: Best Director, Best Script, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Promising Actor. Altın Koza (Golden Cocoon) Adana Film Festival: Jury's Special Prize, Best Script, Best Supporting Actress. Altın Portakal (Golden Orange) Antalya Film Festival: Best Script, Best Third Film, Best Costume, Best Art Direction, Best Editing. Times and Winds (Beş Vakit) by Reha Erdem is his latest production in 2006. Times and Winds was completed in April 2006 and the first screening was at 25th International Istanbul Film Festival where it received FIPRESCI and The Best Turkish Film Award. Afterwards it attended the Adana Golden Boll Film festival and won Best Turkish Film, so as Best Promising Actor (Ali Bey Kayalı), Best Promising Actress (Elit İşcan) and Best Supporting Actor (Bülent Emin Yarar). Afterwards the film attended festivals aboard and received a Golden Antigone – Mention, Nova Award and Young People's Award at the 28th Montpellier International Festival of Mediterranean Films, following by a Special Mention for the Photography at the 55 th Mannheim- Heidelberg Film Festival. Also Times and Winds received 3 awards (Best Director, Best Film and Best Cinematography) from the Turkish Cinema and Film Critics Association.
The US Premier was at the Tribeca Film Festival where it received splendid reviews as well as the attention of the distributors.
Ömer Atay also encourages new directing talents, and works to bring up new producers who are willing to invest in short and feature-length films.
